hunter eyes
A looksmaxxing term for a deep-set, narrow eye area with a positive canthal tilt and low brows, treated in those communities as a key marker of male attractiveness.
Definition
Hunter eyes is a looksmaxxing descriptor for a particular male eye area: deep-set eyes showing "little to no upper eyelid exposure", low-set brows and a positive canthal tilt — an overall shape said to resemble "the eye area of a predatorial animal". [1] Its imagined opposite is a rounder, more open eye area, which the same communities disparage as "prey eyes". The term has no clinical meaning; it is a forum aesthetic standard, not an anatomical category.
Origin
The term comes from the looksmaxxing scene that grew out of incel appearance forums in the mid-2010s, and was in circulation on those platforms' social media by 2018. [3] As looksmaxxing content spread to TikTok in the early 2020s, hunter eyes travelled with it: explainers of the trend note that many looksmaxxers prize hunter eyes with a positive canthal tilt as a core attractiveness feature. [2]
What it signals
Unlike mewing, hunter eyes is rarely used as a free-standing joke. It belongs to the grading vocabulary of looksmaxxing — the practice of scoring faces feature by feature against a fixed ideal — and someone applying it to themselves has usually internalised that scoring habit. Because the features involved are skeletal and essentially unchangeable without surgery, the term carries a built-in push towards fatalism: a person can improve their fitness or grooming, but not their orbital bones. That makes hunter-eyes talk a useful early marker of the harder looksmaxxing pipeline, where dissatisfaction with fixed features shades into blackpill despair or interest in cosmetic procedures. The productive response is not to debate the aesthetics but to ask where the standard came from and who profits from selling the fix.
