Owen Cook
Co-founder of Real Social Dynamics; "Tyler Durden" in The Game
Also known as: Tyler Durden · RSD Tyler · Tyler
Who he is
Owen Cook — known in the seduction world as "Tyler Durden", "RSD Tyler" or simply "Tyler" — is the co-founder of Real Social Dynamics, for years the largest company in the pickup-artistry industry, offering men seminars and "in-field" coaching on how to approach and attract women. [1] He is one of the figures documented in Neil Strauss's The Game, where he appears as Tyler Durden, and he built RSD into an international training-and-video operation that outlasted the pickup scene's 2000s peak.
Why he matters
If Ross Jeffries and Mystery were the seduction community's first-generation gurus, Cook is the one who turned it into a durable business. RSD's bootcamps, products and YouTube output carried pickup's tactics — the neg, the routines, the escalation scripts — to a mass audience well into the 2010s, and the company is a direct ancestor of the modern manosphere's dating-coaching economy. His documented advice included telling men to practise on women they found unattractive before approaching those they desired. [1]
The 2014 controversy
This site records the serious allegations against the figures it profiles. In 2014, during a wave of scrutiny of RSD — most of it directed at the instructor Julien Blanc, who was removed from Australia after protests over his advocacy of using physical force on women — Global News reported that Cook, in a recorded talk, appeared to boast about sexually assaulting a woman: he recounted, in explicit detail, having intercourse with a woman he described as "just totally not in the mood". [1] The reporting concerns his own recorded words rather than a criminal charge; no charges are recorded here arising from it. It is documented because a figure who built an industry on teaching men how to approach women, and who is on record describing an encounter that way, is exactly the kind of account a field guide should not leave out — attributed, and left as what it is.
