Julien Blanc is a Swiss dating coach who, as an instructor for Real Social Dynamics, became the face of the 2014 backlash against the pickup-artistry industry. ^[1]

Blanc is where pickup artistry collided with the wider public. In November 2014 a #TakeDownJulienBlanc campaign spread after a video he posted, with critics alleging his seminars taught coercive and abusive tactics; within weeks his visa was revoked in Australia and he was refused entry to the UK and Singapore. ^[1] Australia's immigration minister Scott Morrison said Blanc

The 2014 bans

Days after Australia's move, Britain refused Blanc entry following a petition against him that drew roughly 160,000 signatures. ^[3] UK minister Lynne Featherstone said his seminars

could have led to an increase in sexual violence and harassment
