Definition

A shit test, in pickup-artist and red-pill usage, is "a conscious or unconscious challenge posed by a woman to a man to determine his suitability as a romantic or sexual partner" — the claim being that women act "in a cold, unfriendly, provocative or otherwise defiant manner" to see whether a man stays unfazed. ^[1] The theory holds that any teasing, criticism or reluctance from a woman is really an evaluation of male strength. Origin

The term is seduction-community jargon, carried from pickup-artist forums into red-pill spaces, and had reached mainstream print by late 2014, when a Guardian dating columnist reported being accused of "shit testing" a man. ^[1] Within red-pill theory it slots into the wider concept of "frame" — defined in UN Women's manosphere glossary as "emotional control and dominance over women" — with a shit test cast as an attack on a man's frame that he must withstand. ^[2]

What it signals

Shit test is a genuine warning-sign term. It rarely arrives alone: using it implies the surrounding doctrine, in which women's behaviour is strategic by nature, communication is a contest, and the correct response to a partner's feelings is management rather than honesty. UN Women's glossary places the pickup-artist framework that produced the term among core manosphere ideologies, describing it as teaching men to treat pursuit of women "as if a game" while mocking the idea of sexual consent. ^[2] A young man who describes interactions with girls as passing or failing shit tests is practising a script that reframes disrespect as strength and empathy as weakness — worth engaging early, before the script hardens into how he reads every relationship.
