AWALT

Definition

AWALT is an initialism of "all women are like that". ^[2] UN Women's glossary of manosphere language defines it in a single line — "All women are like that; used to stereotype women" — which captures the term's entire job. ^[1] Deployed in an argument, AWALT converts a story about one woman into a verdict on all women. The structure of the claim does the rest: if all women are "like that", no individual counterexample can ever count against it, which makes the slogan unfalsifiable by design.

Origin

The acronym belongs to the online manosphere rather than to any older lexicon. Wiktionary labels it incel slang and seduction-community jargon, and its recorded quotations are recent — community usage from 2019, with citations in academic writing about these spaces by 2020. ^[2] UN Women includes it in its glossary of the coded language manosphere communities use about women. ^[1] The four-letter form is what travels: quick to type, instantly recognisable to insiders, and compact enough to end a discussion rather than start one.

What it signals

AWALT earns its warning-sign class from what it does rather than how it sounds. A speaker reaching for it is generalising — from a breakup, a rejection, or a story read online — into a rule about half of humanity, and the acronym packages that leap as received wisdom. It also functions as a loyalty test inside the communities that use it: accepting AWALT means agreeing in advance that no woman's individual behaviour can revise the theory. Someone quoting it back sincerely has usually absorbed more than one word of the surrounding worldview, which is why the acronym is worth a calm conversation about the generalisation itself, not a lecture about vocabulary.
