What the study found

In written evidence to a UK parliamentary committee, HOPE not hate reported findings from a January 2024 Focaldata survey of 2,040 16-24-year-olds: 95 per cent had heard of Andrew Tate, and 1 in 4 of those who had heard of him held a favourable opinion — 41 per cent of male respondents versus 12 per cent of female respondents. It found that people who like Tate were almost twice as likely to hold a negative opinion of feminism (42 per cent versus 23 per cent), while noting that a stated liking is not by itself proof of misogyny. It also cited February 2024 Teacher Tapp polling (n=4,031) in which 41 per cent of secondary-school teachers reported seeing aggressive misogyny from students and 15 per cent reported seeing students advocate for sexual violence. ^[1]

Why it matters here

This evidence speaks to how far exposure to and approval of manosphere figures translates into harmful attitudes or behaviour. It shows that awareness of Andrew Tate among young people is close to universal and that favourable views correlate with more negative attitudes toward feminism, while the group is explicit that liking a figure is not, on its own, evidence of misogyny.
