Definition

Gynocentrism has an ordinary dictionary meaning — dominated by, or emphasising, feminine interests or a feminine point of view. In men's-rights usage the word does much heavier work: it names the claim that society itself is gynocentric, meaning organised around women's interests and stacked against men. ^[1] UN Women's glossary of manosphere language defines the term simply as the claim that society is dominated by women's interests. ^[2]

Origin

The word predates the manosphere, but its current online life comes from men's rights activism, where it functions as the movement's core diagnosis. ISD's explainer notes that men's rights activists argue society favours women over men, regard male privilege as a myth, and single out family courts and marriage as examples of gynocentric institutions; one prominent men's-rights website's mission statement pledges to reject what it calls the unhealthy demands of gynocentrism. ^[1]
