Femoid

Definition

"Femoid" — frequently shortened to "foid" — is a dehumanising incel term for women, formed from "female" and "humanoid". Wikipedia records that incel communities use such "dehumanizing and vulgar terms for women", of which "femoids" (a portmanteau of "female humanoids", sometimes shortened to "foids") is among the most common. ^[1] The whole point of the word is the "-oid": it files women under a category that is not quite human.

Why it matters

Most terms in this glossary describe a worldview; this one enacts it. Dehumanising language is not incidental to incel ideology — it is the mechanism, the step that makes contempt feel reasonable by first denying that the target is a person. That is why hearing it used sincerely is a meaningful marker of exposure to incel and blackpill spaces, and why it pairs so often with the other dehumanising slur, roastie. It is not edgy humour; it is the grammar of not caring what happens to half the population.
