Definition

"Alpha fucks, beta bucks" (often written AF/BB) is a red-pill slogan claiming that women pursue sex with dominant, exciting "alpha" men while securing commitment and money from dependable but less attractive "beta" men. Wiktionary records it plainly as vulgar slang meaning "women prefer sex with alpha males but are willing to use beta males as a source of financial support". ^[1] It is the crude, cynical restatement of hypergamy — the same idea about mate preferences, recast as women being systematically dishonest and exploitative.

Why it matters

The slogan does two things at once, and only one of them is defensible. It gestures at a real, contested question — that people can weigh short-term attraction and long-term stability differently — and then hardens it into a fixed accusation: that this is what women are, deceitfully and by nature. That second move is where it becomes a worldview rather than an observation, and it is the engine behind a lot of red-pill relationship advice, from dread game to the cuck anxiety it feeds.

The evidence does not support the law-like version. Whether women actually pursue this "dual strategy" is weighed in the check on whether hypergamy is universal — the short answer being that mate-preference research finds partial, context-dependent patterns, not the tidy biological rule the maxim asserts. Hearing "AF/BB" used sincerely is a marker that someone has adopted the red pill's most contempt-laden reading of women's motives as settled fact.
